Fontanafredda Vigna La Rosa Barolo DOCG
Fontanafredda continues to produce wines of the highest caliber, thanks to the respect of the land, passion for vinicultural tradition, and use of innovative technology. Located in the heart of Le Langhe, a hilly wine region in the northern region of Piemonte, Fontanafredda and is spread over 250 acres of rugged terrain in the villages of Serralunga d’Alba, Barolo, and Diano d’Alba.
The single-vineyard Barolos are produced from the most painstaking selections carried out in vineyards which tradition has preserved over time as emblems of exemplary quality. "La Rosa" represents an interpretation of Barolo of particular relevance, even though it is the soil and the sun - or what is called in short microclimate - which commands man and guides his technical decisions, and not vice versa. "La Rosa”, in fact, expresses the qualities of the Barolos grown in Serralunga d'Alba at their best, with a marked - almost feminine - concession to grace and softness in its flavour and bouquet. The colour is ruby red, with garnet highlights, while its intense, clear-cut nose hints at withered roses, violet, tobacco, underbrush, spicies and a little bit of vanilla. On the palate, at the beginning tannins are dense, soft and almost velvety and then explode in a sensation of well-balanced fruit and acid freshness. The aftertaste is very long-lasting and rich in flavor.
La Rosa ages for 12 months in barriques of Allier and further 12/18 months (depending on the vintages) in middle size casks (20 – 30 Hl) of Allier wood. The ageing in mediums/small casks allows the wine to achieve a more fine tannic structure without over extracting woody notes. The wine shows a great balance between the primary fruit aromas and the oak (flavor). If needed, a successive clarification of the juice allows to reduce any minor impurity in order to obtain a final (cristal) clear wine. The wine is finally bottled and lays in our cellars for a further year before being commercialized.
Ideal with big red meat dishes and medium or mature cheeses, it can also make for pleasant after-dinner company.
