Eliza Jane Shiraz
Named after the McWilliam family's first female winemaker and vineyard manager, Eliza Jane. This is premium, cool-climate Shiraz at its best. A soaring perfumed nose of floral spices, white pepper, concentrated red fruits and background toasty oak.
A silky medium bodied, spice laden wine with complex red berried fruits. Tannins are impeccably detailed-long & fine boned, showcasing the granite nature of the soils. Pure, fresh, floral & concentrated. Modern cool climate Shiraz at its best. Vintage 2018: Subject to change without notice.
Pristine ripe fruit from top of the slope of the Quarry Hill vineyard was hand-picked in the early morning then rapidly transported to the Hanwood winery where it was cool stored overnight prior to processing the next morning. 50% whole clusters were included in the open fermenter for lifted aromatics and greater expression of regional typicity. Fermented 14 days on skins until ideal extraction was achieved. Gently pressed off then matured in French oak puncheons for 10 months on fine lees with nil rackings. Oak breakdown 25% new, 30% 2nd fill, 45% third fill. A gentle fining and filtration was completed before bottling to ensure a bright and vibrant wine.
